present tense - conocer

Gramática
The verb conocer (to know) is used to express knowledge
of places or people. Remember, when a noun refers to a
person we have to include the preposition "a".

Examples:
Ella conoce la biblioteca. - She knows the library.
Yo conozco a la maestra. - I know the tutor.
Tú conoces a ella. - You know her.

Present tense of conocer (to know)


yo	conozco	(I know)	nosotros (as)	conocemos	(we know)
tú	conoces	(you know)	vosotros (as)	conocéis	(you know)
Ud./él/ella	conoce	(you know, he/she knows)	Uds./ellos/ellas	conocen	(you/they know)

Note! Don't forget the personal a.

Hace diez años que conozco a Juan.- I've know John for ten years.
Conozco a mi familia bien.-I know my family well.
Conozco la ciudad de Punta Arenas en Chile.-I know the city of Punta Arenas in Chile.
Conoces a tu gato porque hace buen rato que lo tenías.-You know your cat because you've had it for a while.
Conoces al profesor nuevo?-Do you know the new profesor?
Ella conoce a Bernardo y le caye bien.-She knows Bernardo, and she likes him.
Raúl conoce Santiago porque vive allá-Raul know Santiago because he lives there.
Debemos conocer la universidad juntos.-We should get to know the university together.
La conocemos hace un mes.-We've known her a month.
Le encanta el resturante italiano en el centro, lo conocéis.-She loves the Italian restaurant downtown, you all know it?
Conocéis a vuestro perro tanto que lo dejáis solo en la casa?-Do you all know your dog so much that you leave him alone in the house?
Ellos conocen a su madre bien entonces se comportan bien en el colegio.-They know their mother well so they behave in school.
Ustedes conocen a mi padre.- You all know my father.

Gramática
Remember that "a" plus the definitive article "el" (the) gives us the contraction "al".

This only happens with "a" plus "el", not with "a" plus "la", "los", or "las".
Especially not with "a" plus the pronoun "él"

Notes for the Tutor

The student should repeat these simple sentences to practice vocabulary and improve pronunciation.
The tutor should ask the student questions using CONOCER.
